WHAT: Steak and Wine Tasting

As part of Steak Week, Harry Caray’s Italian Steakhouse, L&L Packing Company and Ridge Vineyards are joining forces on Thursday, June 7th to offer the 2nd Annual STEAK 101—a seven course steak and wine dinner where guests learn from the experts while enjoying an evening of extraordinary food and wine.

Harry Caray’s Executive Chef Peter McGarrity and Sommelier Mark Molitor have created an incomparable tasting menu designed to answer the most commonly asked questions about ordering steak and wine.  For each course, Joel Lezak, owner of L&L Packing Company, one of the most highly regarded steak suppliers in the city, will compare and contrast the characteristics of two different steak options, including choice vs. prime beef, dry-aged vs. wet-aged beef, grass-fed vs. corn-fed beef and wagyu vs. prime beef.  Ridge Vineyards Wine Ambassador Christina Donley will explain how the qualities of the meat influence the choice of wine for each course. Ridge is known for producing exceptional single-vineyard Zinfandels, and each steak course will feature a different Zinfandel or Zinfandel blend, including vintages sourced from vineyards where many of the planted vines are more than one hundred years old. Ridge Estate Zinfandels and Zinfandel blends are hand crafted by nature with as little intervention as possible by using sustainable farming practices and native yeasts to showcase the wines relative to their individual soils and micro climates.

This Father’s Day, June 17^th, the Chicago Cubs will be taking on the Boston Red Sox in the most highly anticipated series of the season. The series will mark Cubs President of Baseball Operations Theo Epstein’s first match up against his former team. In honor of this interleague rivalry between two of the most storied teams in baseball, Harry Caray’s in Chicago, Rosemont, Lombard and Navy Pier will be celebrating Father’s Day with a lineup of classic food specials from Chicago and Boston. Rapper-turned-actor T.I. – who will guest star on the second season of the Chicago-based Starz series “Boss” – had lunch at Harry Caray’s Italian Steakhouse in River North Thursday.

T.I. sat at the V.I.P. table at Harry Caray’s and ordered the chicken vesuvio. From what I hear, he spent most of the time on his phone but was more than willing to take a photo with the Harry Caray statue on his way out.

T.I. (real name: Clifford Harris) will play a former gang member with City Hall aspirations on “Boss.” The show is currently filming in Chicago and will wrap July 11, according to the show’s star and co-executive producer Kelsey Grammer.

Talk Like Shakespeare Day Set for April 23 – Celebrations Planned for Chicago, London and Around the World

City of Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel has proclaimed Monday, April 23, Talk Like Shakespeare Day, an occasion for citizens from Chicago and across the globe to celebrate Shakespeare’s 448th birthday by bringing the spoken words of Shakespeare into their daily lives. The holiday, which originated in Chicago in 2009, became a worldwide sensation garnering extensive national and international media coverage and more than one million hits to TalkLikeShakespeare.org.

Among the many visitors to Navy Pier, the Midwest’s most visited tourist destination, on April 23 will be William Shakespeare himself. Those who talk like Shakespeare to “the Bard” will receive free rides on Navy Pier’s iconic Ferris Wheel from 10 a.m. to noon. Shakespeare will dine at Harry Caray’s Tavern on Navy Pier, where a special Shakespeare-inspired menu will be available from noon to 2:00 p.m. Diners who talk like Shakespeare at Harry Caray’s Tavern will be entered into a raffle to win a $100 Harry Caray’s Gift Certificate, four Pier Park Passes, free Navy Pier parking and four Tickets to Chicago Shakespeare Theater’s summer musical Disney’s Beauty and the Beast.

On November 14, 1934, at about 1:10 in the afternoon, a photographer, name unknown, set up across from the Chicago Varnish Company Building at 33 West Kinzie Street.

Captured that day were the front of the building, some of the west side, and an intriguing view of Kinzie Street.

Embedded in the brick street are streetcar tracks, which along with cables suspended above were evidence of a street railway system that ran in Chicago in various forms from 1913 to 1973.

Written on some of the windows of the building at right are “B&H Fibre Mfg Co” and “Fibre needles for disc records.” B&H stood for “Barry and Hall,” a company that made bamboo phonograph needles. Above both corner entrances is a clock, a sign for “Dearborn Avenue” and “Hunter Walton & Co.,” a manufacturer of dairy products.

At left, at the corner of Kinzie Street and State Street, was a long-time Hertz car/truck rental location with spaces for 325 vehicles and an elevator to take them to other floors. It is now the Museum of Broadcast Communications. The warehouse on the other side of State Street is where 330 North Wabash was built in 1973. At far left is Wabash Avenue, elevated in the distance.

Built in 1895, Chicago Varnish Company Building, a rare example in Chicago of Dutch Renaissance Revival architecture, was designated a Chicago Landmark on July 25, 2001. Today, it is the home of Harry Caray’s Italian Steakhouse – along with the building to its left, its rows of windows replaced with a giant billboard for Budweiser. The next building over, long since demolished, has been a small parking lot for at least 50 years.

Founded by the late Hall of Fame play-by-play announcer, Harry Caray’s Italian Steakhouse’s flagship restaurant opened in 1987. There’s also a newer outpost at Navy Pier. Both restaurants are filled with baseball and sports celebrity memorabilia, with the Navy Pier location especially rich in one-of-a-kind collectibles.

“Harry loved restaurants and bars and was perfect to be in the restaurant business,” said Grant DePorter, Harry Caray’s president. “He loved socializing with the fans.” Today, restaurant business partners include Caray’s widow, Dutchie, and such baseball greats as Ernie Banks and Ryne Sandberg.

Celebrities often turn up at the restaurants—both from Chicago and visiting teams—and usually are more than willing to talk to ordinary folks. Movie and TV stars with Chicago connections including Bill Murray, Vince Vaughn and Desperate Housewives’ hunk Jamie Denton also visit Harry Caray’s from time to time.

The food is another star attraction here, especially the prime steaks and the chicken Vesuvio, a Chicago invention of roast chicken, potato wedges, garlic and peas in a white-wine sauce. Italian staples also grace the extensive menu.

I like the strategy of having 4 launch parties over a weekend at sophisticated bars frequented by locals and tourists. Thursday was a special day in Chicago sports: The 14th Annual Worldwide Toast to Harry Caray.

The event marked what would have been the Cubs announcer’s 98th birthday, with fans all over Chicago—and more than 100 countries—raising a glass of Bud, or other beverage, at 5:45 p.m.

It’s a tradition that has become one of the most anticipated parts of the baseball season—for Cubs fans at least.

Caray’s day stands along in Chicago sports, but are there other players/sports figures who could someday have a toast all to themselves?

Here are a few candidates.

Former Bears coach Mike Ditka

Chicago already worships him—and the entire 1985 Super Bowl-winning Bears team, it seems—so a toast to Iron Mike isn’t far-fetched. His would be done with signature win, though.

Former Bulls guard Michael Jordan

The greatest NBA player ever. Six titles. Enough said, no? Bring your own cigar.

Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville

He’s taken some heat from fans this year for what some see as questionable decisions, but Coach Q has an aura about him that is irresistible. Not to mention that Stanley Cup title he brought to Blackhawks nation.

Bulls guard Derrick Rose

It’s a bit early to judge, but he is certainly on the right path. He’s already dearly beloved in Chicago and an NBA title or four would seal the deal.

Holy cow, it’s that time of year again. Fans of the late legendary Cubs broadcaster Harry Caray will raise a glass in his honor March 1st at the 14th annual worldwide toast. Caray’s widow, Dutchie, former player Ernie Banks and numerous other luminaries will gather at Harry Caray’s restaurant at Navy Pier to celebrate. The toast will occur at 5:45 p.m., followed by a rendition of “Take Me Out to the Ballgame.” Cast members from the “Million Dollar Quartet” will also perform at the event. Fans from more than 120 countries annually participate in the toast. And in honor of Harry — beer is the preferred beverage of choice in your glass.

Organizers say that people on six continents toasted the late Harry Caray to mark the Hall of Fame broadcaster’s 98th birthday on Thursday.

The epicenter of the worldwide toast was Harry Caray’s Restaurant on Navy Pier, where Mr. Cub, Ernie Banks, fellow Hall of Famer Billy Williams and Cubs owner Tom Ricketts were among those who donned outsized replicas of Harry’s famed thick black glasses.

It’s a tradition that began with a toast by 200 people who jammed into the original Harry Caray’s Italian steakhouse, at 33 W. Kinzie St., following Caray’s 1998 funeral, days before he would have turned 84.

Restaurant CEO Grant DePorter said it looked so impressive that they decided on a birthday toast a year later, which again packed the bar. In 2000, DePorter came up with the idea of having 73,000 fans join in at pubs across the country.

Caray once boasted of having consumed 73,000 Budweisers during his lifetime.

In 2001, the number was expanded to 300,000 — the number Caray of alcoholic drinks Caray once claimed to have consumed.

Since then, it’s been off to the races, with toasts on six continents and aboard the International Space Station. DePorter said the latest wrinkle is people bungeeing off of tall buildings and towers to toast as they yell, “This one’s for Harry.”

He called the late broadcaster’s fans “creative” and estimates that 5 million fans have joined in the toast.

Many broadcast personalities are huge in their time, but are quickly forgotten. DePorter said it’s the exact opposite for Caray.

“It’s gotten bigger and bigger,” he said of the toast.

For this year’s Navy Pier toast, DePorter convinced InBev, the European owner of Anheuser-Busch, to import Budweiser from each of the G8 countries.

The Japanese Budweiser was the last to arrive, hours before the toast.

The birthday toasts won’t end soon. DePorter said planning is under way for an even more expansive celebration next year, marking the 15th anniversary of Caray’s death, and in 2014, when it will mark both Caray’s 100th birthday and the centennial of Wrigley Field.

Caray, who was inducted into the broadcaster’s wing of the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1989 and is also a member of the Radio Hall of Fame at Chicago’s Museum of Broadcast Communications, began broadcasting major league baseball games in l945.

He spent 25 years in St. Louis as the voice of the Cardinals before being fired in a dispute with team owner August Busch. He spent one year in Oakland, broadcasting Athletics games, before settling in the Comiskey Park radio booth, broadcasting Chicago White Sox games for a decade. In 1981, he assumed the Cubs play-by-play job, which he kept until his death.

Known for the trademark “Holy Cow,” with which he greeted every home team’s homer and other spectacular plays, he also popularized the singing of “Take Me Out to the Ballgame,” first at Comiskey Park and later at Wrigley Field, during the 7th-inning stretch.

Thursday, the Chicago cast of “Million Dollar Quartet” provided the musical accompaniment.

HOLY COW! At exactly 5:55 pm CST tonight, Cubs fans will raise a Budweiser in the 13th Annual Worldwide Toast to Harry Caray and a special tribute to Ron Santo. The toast always occurs on the late Cubs broadcaster’s birthday, and fans in more than 100 countries around the world are expected to participated. The place to be is Harry’s Bar (33 W. Kinzie St.) where Chicago royalty like Ernie “Mr. Cub” Banks, Dutchie Caray, Tom Ricketts, Richard Dent and Ron Kittle will be in the house.

Not that it’s brought my beloved Cubs any luck but I honor the legend yearly by participating in the toast.  I grew up listening to that iconic broadcaster so the least I can do is raise a pint for the voice of the Cubs.

USA Today has called the Toast an “international phenomenon,” reaching to 120 countries around the world. Chicago will be in the international spotlight throughout 2012, with World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates in April, the G8 and NATO Summits in May and the Ryder Cup in September.  Not since the Century of Progress International Exposition World’s Fair of 1933 has the city occupied such a prominent spot on the world stage. In the spirit of welcoming the world to Chicago, this year’s Toast will include a special salute to the visiting G8 countries. For the week leading up to the Toast, Harry Caray’s Italian Steakhouse in River North will feature decorations and food and drink specials  specific to each of the G8 nations. Harry Caray’s Restaurant Group Chief Executive Grant DePorter has a bit of P.T. Barnum in him.

Every year on the late Caray’s March 1 birthday, DePorter organizes a worldwide toast to the famed baseball announcer. And he always throws in a publicity stunt. Or two. Or three.

In the run-up to this year’s event, he reached out to Cubs fans, two of whom decided to toast the announcer by bungee jumping off China’s Macau Tower and New Zealand’s Sky Tower wearing Caray masks. And at the toast, in celebration of the coming G-8 and NATO summits in Chicago, the restaurant will serve pop and beer from the G-8 countries and allow customers to pay for them in G-8 currencies. (DePorter may be the only CEO in town celebrating this event.)

DePorter’s most famous toast involved blowing up the foul ball touched by Steve Bartman during the 2003 playoffs. The next year he had the ball’s remnants ground into a spaghetti sauce and served to fans. But the showman in DePorter really shines through when he lists the Top 5 stunts he has failed to pull off.

“We were trying to bring together nine bear cubs, which were going to be dressed in Cubs uniforms,” he wrote. “They were going to play a baseball game and then toast Harry at the end. Just as it was about to happen, they got called to go out of town to shoot a movie.”

At No. 5 was a toast from the International Space Station.

“It was in the works,” DePorter wrote.

Extra innings: Cubs Chairman Tom Ricketts will be leading the worldwide toast to Haray Caray March 1 at the Navy Pier Harry Caray’s restaurant. The annual toast coincides with Caray’s birthday, which would have been his 98th.

Every year, “Harry O’Caray’s” in River North hosts one of Chicago’s largest St. Patrick’s Day parties before, during and after the city’s famed parade.  On Saturday, March 17^th the entire restaurant (including the second floor – which is otherwise reserved for private events) will transform into a big green celebration of everything Irish!  Doors will open early at 9:00am.  On the first floor, the Shannon Rovers will set the mood with their traditional Irish bagpipe music.  On the second floor, hometown favorite Sugarbeat will perform Irish tinged rock from 12:30pm-5:00pm.

Windy City Live mentions Harry Caray’s Groundhog Day Special.

For most of us in Chicago, Feb. 2 brings back memories of last year’s intense snowfall. But for Harry Caray’s, in which “Groundhog Day” writer/producer/director Harold Ramisis is an investor (he’s a partner in Harry Caray’s Navy Pier), Feb. 2 means something else entirely.

So in homage to Groundhog Day (the day and the film), the city locations of Harry Caray’s (Navy Pier and 33 W. Kinzie St.) are offering this novel two-for-one deal: Come in for lunch in the dining room this Thursday, and you can return Friday and have the exact same lunch, free.

WFF Raises more than $85,000 at Winter Warm-up | January 16, 2012

CHICAGO — Call it the perfect ending to a hectic week, as Cubs pitcher Kerry Wood and his wife, Sarah, had much to celebrate. The same day Kerry re-signed with the Cubs for another year, he and Sarah also raised over $85,000, entertained friends, celebrities and Cubs players at the Wood Family Foundation’s first Woody’s Winter Warm-up on Friday, Jan. 13, at Harry Caray’s Tavern, Navy Pier. In celebrating with fans and new teammates, ‘Woody’ recruited guest bartenders throughout the evening. Bartenders suited up in a T-shirt and bar apron and competed for tips while serving drinks and food to guests. Participants included media personalities Val Warner (ABC’s Windy City LIVE), Lou Cannelis (Fox Chicago) and Pete McMurray (The Loop FM) in addition to Cubs players Ryan Dempster, Tony Campana, Travis Wood, Chris Volstad, Ian Stewart, Matt Garza, Randy Wells, Marlon Byrd, former Cubs Rick Sutcliffe, Jon Lieber, Gary Matthews and new manager Dale Sveum. Even Bears players Otis Wilson, Richard Dent and Israel Idonije did some mixing behind the bar. Others in attendance included Cubs owners Todd and Tom Ricketts, President of Baseball Operations Theo Epstein, Cubs players Jeff Samardzija, Darwin Barney, James Russell, Josh Vitters, David DeJesus, Ian Stewart, and superfan Ronnie Woo Woo.

Emcee Ryan Chiaverini (ABC’s Windy City LIVE) kicked off the event by welcoming guests and highlighting the evening’s program, which included a silent auction and live auctions as well as musical performances by Chicago’s very own platinum-selling, Grammy-nominated Plain White T’s; singer-songwriter William Beckett, who fronted the band The Academy Is …; and music producer Paul Blair, aka DJ White Shadow. Chiaverini introduced Kerry and Sarah, who thanked everyone for coming and spoke about the Wood Family Foundation and its mission. While Tom Ricketts and Theo Epstein stood nearby, Wood expressed his excitement for the upcoming season and remaining a Cub: “There is no place like Chicago. It’s home.”

Guests were not only entertained by the special acoustic performance by the event’s headline band, Plain White T’s, but unexpectedly by Chicago Cubs pitcher Randy Wells, who took to the stage to perform “Free Fallin’” alongside the Plain White T’s. But it didn’t stop there; next up was Theo Epstein, who played “Rockin’ In The Free World” on guitar with the band and, finally, Chiaverini, who sang and played guitar to “Sweet Home Alabama.”

Ryan Dempster did his remarkable impression of Harry Caray (with Dutchie standing in the front row, smiling) complete with glasses and voice to showcase the one live auction item, which was the opportunity to throw out the first pitch at a Cubs game. The bidding became very interesting when Dempster asked Wood to include a 30-minute pitching session with himself and when Wood agreed, the auction shot up and sold at $7,000. Another bidder shouted their interest in buying the exact same package for $7,000 if it were offered, which it was. A total of $14,000 was raised from the live auction item.

DJ White Shadow moved the evening along with dance music, and Harry Caray’s owner Grant DePorter allowed the party to continue past midnight.

“Tonight was a huge success for the Wood Family Foundation’s first Woody’s Winter Warm-up, raising money to continue our support for the children of Chicago,” said Wood. “It was great to have the Ricketts, Theo, Dale and Cubs players on board to help make this fundraiser such a success in addition to our fantastic celebrity bartenders and special guest performers. Sarah and I are grateful to everyone who came out this evening to celebrate with us. We may have to make this an annual event!”

(Ernie) Banks (and the Bears’ Israel Idonije) also played a nice role at the early surprise birthday party that my Fox TV colleague Jan Jeffcoat staged for hubby Matthew Kingsley at Harry Caray’s on Kinzie — several days before his 40th.

The tips collected at Kerry Wood’s charity event at Harry Caray’s Tavern at Navy Pier Friday went straight to the Wood Family Foundation, which might explain why the Cubs and Bears players working the “Woody’s Winter Warm-up” benefit seemed determined to earn gratuity by any means necessary.

The Cubs’ Randy Wells served drinks behind the bar and at one point allowed a middle-aged woman to stuff a $5 bill down the front of his collar. Former Bear Otis Wilson also got behind the bar but seemed to earn his biggest tips when he allowed guests to try on his Super Bowl ring from the triumphant 1985 team.

Cubs President of Baseball Operations Theo Epstein didn’t pour any drinks, but he seemed to pose for as many photos with guests as anyone else. He also showed off his guitar skills when he joined “Hey There Delilah” band Plain White T’s on stage to perform Neil Young’s “Rockin’ in the Free World.” Wells opted to play Tom Petty’s “Free Fallin’” with Plain White T’s.

The experience was likely a thrill for Plain White T’s lead singer and Elmhurst resident Tom Higgenson.

“My Dad would have the (Cubs) game on in the house every day in the summer,” Higgenson told me, adding that he is raising his son as a Cubs fan as well. “We already got him his first little Cubs hat. He’s already on his way.”

Also in attendance was former The Academy Is … frontman William Beckett, who performed earlier in the night, the Cubs’ Ryan Dempster, who hosted his own charity event for his Dempster Family Foundation the night before at D’Agostino’s in Wrigleyville, and the Bears’ Israel Idonije, who poured wine for guests.

The star of the evening, of course, was Wood. The 34-year-old pitcher has been a fan favorite ever since he made his Cubs debut in 1998, and it showed in the turnout Friday (about 400 guests were on hand for the benefit, which raised more than $85,000 for Wood’s children-focused charity). It appeared Wood’s future with the Cubs was in jeapordy in recent months, but fans officially received word at Friday’s Cubs Convention that he would be brought back for another season.

Did Wood ask Epstein if he could break the news himself at his charity event?

“No,” Wood told me. “I was just trying to get a job.”

The guests at Harry Caray’s were clearly excited about that day’s news and told Wood so throughout the night. When Wood was behind the bar serving drinks, one nearby fan used the opportunity to congratulate him on the new contract.

“Thank you, thank you,” Wood said before looking into the crowd and yelling, “Anybody need a drink?”

Friday afternoon at the annual Cubs Convention, new GM Theo Epstein pulled a fast oneon the fans, and they were ecstatic. Despite public denials that a deal was done, the North Siders had re-signed pitcher Kerry Wood to a one-year $3 million deal Wednesday with an option for 2013, likely ensuring that Kid K ends his career wearing Cubbie blue.
…It was fitting, then, that Wood made his way from the convention to the Navy Pier Harry Caray’s for his annual Woody’s Winter Warm-up event to raise money for his Wood Family Foundation, which supports children’s charities. At the Pier, Wood joined other sports luminaries and local celebs in serving drinks to those who ponied up for the privilege.

Friday night was a sports lover’s dream come true as newly resigned Cubs pitcher, Kerry Wood, and his beautiful wife Sarah hosted their first  “Woody’s Winter Warmup” fundraiser for their Wood Family Foundation.

When we arrived, Kerry and Sarah were being interviewed by every news station in town while players were arriving in droves.  It was an exciting evening for Cubs fans coming after the convention announcement that same day that Woods had been resigned.

The night included players and local personalities tending bar and competing for tips, a dinner buffet, an open bar, a silent auction (that included lots of sports memorabilia), a raffle and world class entertainment.

The silent auction included a signed Ernie Banks jersey and bat, a Kerry Wood signed jersey and ball with a photo op thrown in, an on-field photo at Wrigley Field (minimum bid was $2200), baseballs signed by Aramis Ramirez, Carlos Zambrano and Carlos Pena among others, Cubs pitching rubber signed by 2011 bullpen, four tickets behind home plate, a tour of the broadcast booths at Wrigley plus 4 field box tickets, a pig roast for 100 at Carvetti’s in Lake Geneva and signed jerseys from Ryan Dempster and Marion Byrd among many others.

The Plain White T’s performed their number one single, “Hey There Delilah” with Cubs pitcher Randy Wells sitting in on a set and dedicating a song to Ron Santo.  Even Cubs Manager of Operations, Theo Epstein, got in on the action playing his guitar to “Rockin’ in the Free World” while host Ryan Chiaverini both sang and played along to “Sweet Home Alabama.”

The Wood Family Foundation raises funds and awareness for local children’s charites and this event raised over $80K.  Recently, the organization has funded a playroom for kids receiving cancer treatments at Lurie Children’s Hospital, teamed with the Cubs to build a playground in an underserved area and provided school supplies and clothing for kids in need.

Kerry Wood raised more than $85,000 at the Wood Family Foundation’s first “Woody’s Winter Warm-Up” on Friday, which included Theo Epstein playing guitar. The event was held at Harry Caray’s tavern on Navy Pier and was perfectly timed as Wood re-signed with the team earlier in the day at the Cubs Convention. Wood recruited guest bartenders throughout  the evening, and they suited up in a t-shirt and bar apron and  competed for tips while serving drinks and food to guests.

Participants included Ryan Dempster, Tony Campana, Travis Wood, Chris Volstad, Ian Stewart, Matt Garza, Randy Wells,  Marlon Byrd, Rick Sutcliffe, Jon Lieber, Gary Matthews and new manager Dale Sveum.  Even Bears players Otis Wilson, Richard Dent and Israel Idonije did some mixing behind the bar. Others in attendance included Cubs owners, Todd and Tom Ricketts, Epstein, and Jeff Samardzija, Darwin Barney, James Russell, Josh Vitters, and David DeJesus.

Guests were not only entertained by the special acoustic performance by the event’s headline band, Plain White T’s, but unexpectedly by Cubs pitcher Randy Wells, who took to the stage to perform “Free Fallin” alongside the Plain White T’s.  Epstein was next up and played “Rockin’ In A Free World” on guitar with the band.

The bidding became interesting when Dempster asked Wood to include a 30-minute pitching session with himself. When Wood agreed, the auction shot up and sold at $7,000. Another bidder shouted their interest in buying the exact same package for $7,000 if offered, and it was.

Wood and his wife, Sarah, thanked everyone for coming and spoke about the Wood Family Foundation and its mission.  Wood said he was excited about the upcoming season, saying “there is no place like Chicago – it’s home.”

If the 2012 Cubs season is half as enjoyable as “Woody’s Winter Warm-Up,” it’s going to be a lot of fun. The event Friday (which was Jan. 13 for those who might be inclined toward being superstitous) benefitted the Wood Family Foundation and was held at Harry Caray’s Tavern, Navy Pier. Meaning newly re-signed Cubs reliever Kerry Wood and wife Sarah were the hosts for the party that included a musical performance from Plain White T’s.

Cubs players served as servers and bartenders, and everyone appeared to have a good time. And for those who wondered, yes, Ronnie “Woo Woo” Wickers was there. So were former Bears Richard Dent andOtis Wilson. Patrons mingled with Cubs manager Dale Sveum, players and team officials. All the while, a sign in the establishment reminded: 75 days till opening day.
